New Syrup Substitute: Cane Sugar Syrup?

As a substitute for maple syrup in recipes I've been using brown rice syrup, which tends to be a bit dense and not very sweet. I just found some cane sugar syrup at my co-op that can serve as a substitute. It already looks less dense, and I'm sure it will be sweeter. If any of my dieticians have any cautions about using this please let me know. The ingredients are literally just cane sugar.

Another alternative that might be okay would be to make a simple syrup using cane sugar and water. Ginger and fruit can be used to liven this up. Simple syrups can go in tea or another beverage, or be used in cooking sweets (See this for examples).
